Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 19, 2021) – Greg Wilson earned his best feature result at Knoxville Raceway since August 2005 last Thursday during his NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores preliminary night.

The Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed Seeling Motorsports driver placed 14th during his most successful preliminary night in more than a decade.

“I feel like as a whole that’s the best I’ve been at Knoxville,” he said. “We’re still battling time trials, but all in all it wasn’t the worst Knoxville in the world. I think the fact that we made a lot of laps there helped me by doing the 360 and the 410 Nationals. And having Andy (Potter) being able to watch me entering the corner. That place is tough. I think our car was fairly close. When we started messing with it much it’d feel worse and get worse. The car was the most drivable of anything I’ve driven there in a while. We just have to qualify better.”

The evening began with Wilson qualifying 33rd quickest, which lined him up on the outside of the front row in a heat race. He led the distance to capture the heat race victory to lock himself into the main event. Wilson then gained a pair of positions to place 14th.

“When you get out in clean air in the heat it helps and we pulled away to win,” he said. “That’s always good to win anything there. We reverted back to qualifying so we started toward the back in the feature. I was frustrated toward the end of the night because we felt like we should have been able to move forward more. If we run a little better in qualifying and a little better in the feature we might have enough points to be locked into Saturday’s B Main, but in my opinion we fell right where we were at as a team.”

Once preliminary points were calculated Wilson ranked 37th overall out of the nearly 100 drivers. However, only the top 26 locked into Saturday’s action and all other competitors competed on Friday during the Hard Knox program.

Wilson timed in 32nd quickest in his group before advancing from 11th to 10th in a heat race and from 21st to 16th in a B Main on Friday. He wrapped up the event by gaining three positions to finish 10th in the D Main on Saturday.

“We were probably as good in the D Main as we were all week,” he said. “The car looked the best and I felt the best driving it. We were better rolling the middle and the top. You just can’t start that far deep.”

Up next for the team is a pair of FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions races this Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., and Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.

“I’m pretty excited because we’re going to some tracks that the team has been pretty good at and I’ve been pretty decent at,” Wilson said. “Hopefully we’ll have some good runs.”
