Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 9, 2021) – Garet Williamson enjoyed a career-best performance during the 31st annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank last weekend.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver placed fourth on Thursday, which earned enough points to lock into the finale on Saturday for the first time in his career.

“Our goal going in was to lock in,” he said. “I didn’t have any expectations of leading our first lap at Knoxville or running in the top five on our prelim night so it was a great event.”

Williamson was solid during the opening preliminary night as he qualified 15th quickest and gained a position to finish third in a heat race. He ranked eighth in points of drivers who locked into the A Main and scored the pole position with the eight-car inversion.

“We came in there and drew in the 50s so we thought it’d be tough,” he said. “Going out late isn’t ideal there. We ended up going 15th quickest, which helped a lot. Then we went from fourth to third in the heat race. I felt really good and I was comfortable. I haven’t really felt that comfortable there all year. It all came together.

“I led the first lap of the feature and we were really good the first 10 laps. I made two or three mistakes that cost me and I fell to fourth. I finally settled down and at the end was running down the guys in second and third. It was the best we’ve been there. Without those mistakes early I think we’d have run in the top three.”

Williamson’s fourth-place outing was a career-best run at the track. Once both preliminary nights were finished he ranked 16th in overall points to move directly into the A Main on Saturday. Williamson battled around 15th for the majority of the feature before ending 21st.

“You sit and wait all night and try to watch the track before you get a couple of laps in hot laps,” he said. “I came in and had the guys tighten me up. I think that was a wrong call. We were a little snug for the first part of the A Main. Once the fuel burned off we were pretty good, but when you’re that far back and racing with good drivers it’s really hard to move forward.”
