Hagar Makes Most of Seat Time at Knoxville Raceway Prior to 360 Knoxville Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 3, 2021) – The mission was accomplished last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway for Derek Hagar, who wanted to log laps at the track in preparation for two big weekends coming up.

“I felt great about it,” he said. “We got to make 71 laps so we got more comfortable and learned a lot of things. I feel pretty good going into our preliminary night. We tried some different things with the setup that we feel would work. It worked really good in the 360 car. We came from 12th to second in the B Main. We had a good car in the A Main, but it was tough to get around cars.”

Hagar’s best result came in the 360 division as he qualified 16th quickest in his group before advancing from eighth to seventh in a heat race, from 12th to second in the B Main and from 22nd to 14th in the A Main.

Hagar also learned in the 410 division as he timed in eighth quickest in his FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions group. He gained one position to finish seventh in a heat race before advancing two spots in the B Main to place 12th.

“I was fighting a little bit of a throttle issue,” he said. “Every time I felt I was off the gas I wasn’t and it’d make me overshoot the corner. We addressed that and got it fixed.”

Next up is the 31st annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank at Knoxville Raceway. Hagar’s preliminary night is Thursday before the event finale on Saturday.

Hagar’s career-best run during the event came in 2011 when he finished sixth during his preliminary night and made the Saturday A Main. The goal for this weekend is to lock into the finale main event once again.

“As a team we have to get better qualifying,” he said. “We need to be on point with that. We race well, but you can waste your whole race trying to get up front when if you qualify well you can put yourself in a lot better position.”
