Ramey Learns Throughout Pair of Features at Knoxville Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 23, 2021) – Gunner Ramey ran double features at Knoxville Raceway on Friday night, accounting for the regularly scheduled 360ci sprint car action as well as the make-up race from May 15 that was postponed because of rain.

Ramey finished 18th of 24 entries in the regular program and 13th of 20 drivers in the make-up feature.

“It wasn’t exactly the sort of results we were looking for,” the driver of the No. 21 machine said. “We were behind early after qualifying 22nd quickest, which put us behind the eight ball and set us up deep in the field.”

Ramey finished sixth in his heat race, an improvement of two positions from where he started.

The Terry Doogs Racing driver lined up 19th in the 18-lap feature and turned consistent laps on the bottom groove, something he hadn’t been able to do in any of his previous starts at Knoxville Raceway, before finishing 18th.

“It’s tough to run the bottom at Knoxville, so to string together some decent laps was a good learning experience,” he said.

Ramey’s team quickly got the car prepared for the make-up feature as all of the preliminary action was completed last month.

“It made for a hectic and fast-paced night, more so than usual,” he said.

Ramey started on the outside of the seventh row and improved one position to 13th by the time the checkered flag was waved.

“Overall, it was still a positive weekend even though we didn’t get the results we wanted,” he said. “I was able to learn how to run the bottom consistently with good pace and I got to turn double the number of laps I would have otherwise at Knoxville.”

The Sedalia, Mo., driver turns his attention to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., where he will race on Saturday.

“We should be in the top five there for sure and I really think we’re good enough to be challenging for a win there,” he said.

Ramey has made five starts at Lake Ozark Speedway this season. He scored his season-best third place finish at the track on June 12.
