Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 15, 2021) – David Gravel highlighted a doubleheader weekend at Knoxville Raceway with a seventh-place showing last Friday.

The Big Game Motorsports driver opening the Brownells Big Guns Bash by qualifying third quickest and placing second in a heat race to lock into the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series dash. Unfortunately, Gravel pulled the highest number – eight – to line up on the outside of the fourth row.

Gravel advanced a position to finish seventh, which is where he started the A Main. He ran in that spot for most of the race to record his 24th top 10 of the season – tied for the most – during World of Outlaws competition.

“The first night we were pretty decent,” he said. “I was able to qualify good to get on the front row of a heat race and we made the dash. Then we got the eight for the dash and it was hard to pass. We hovered around seventh the whole feature. We were good enough to finish fifth, but just couldn’t make it happen.”

The event concluded on Saturday with Gravel qualifying sixth quickest. He placed fourth in a heat race before capping the night by advancing from 15th to 11th in the main event. It marked only the sixth time this season that he didn’t finish in the top 10.

“The second night we just missed it in qualifying by about two hundredths to be on the front row in a heat race,” he said. “Then we had the toughest heat race of probably the year. Seven of the eight drivers who made the dash on Friday were in our heat on Saturday. We lost a spot, which is so huge. That’s two rows. Instead of starting 11th in the feature we started 15th. The track took rubber before our A Main and they had to do track work, which didn’t promote too much passing once we got out there.”

A trio of races at three tracks fill this weekend’s World of Outlaws schedule with action on Thursday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa; on Friday at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa; and on Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., for the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers. Gravel is seeking his first career win at all three tracks.

“Burlington is a pretty cool track,” he said. “The Dubuque track is a first time for all of us. None of the Outlaws have been there. It looks fun and wide. I always like trying new places out. And I feel I’ve been pretty good at Beaver Dam. We just haven’t gotten a win there yet. Hopefully I can break through and make that happen.”
