Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 18, 2020) – Brian Brown garnered his 22nd top-10 outing of the season last Thursday during the opening round of The One and Only and the 9th annual Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank.

The three-day World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at Knoxville Raceway replaced this year’s version of the Knoxville Nationals.

Aug. 13 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifying: 4; Heat race: 4 (8); Dash: 7 (7); Feature: 6 (7).

“Not knowing what to expect with the format we knew you had to be good every time you hit the track,” Brown said. “We were fourth quick and then the heats were tougher than the Knoxville Nationals because you aren’t splitting the field in half. I was happy with going eighth to fourth in the heat. The dash draw didn’t go our way, but we got to second at one time in the feature and I felt like I had a shot to win. As the fuel load burned off our car I got a lot tighter. It’s the same thing that’s bit us a couple of times this year. We held on there at the end and finished sixth. Overall it was a good night. I think we were fourth overall in points.”

Aug. 14 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifying: 2; Heat race: 5 (8); Dash: 3 (4); Feature: 16 (3).

“We qualified a little better, going second quickest, and then went eighth to fifth in the heat race,” Brown said. “We picked up a spot in the dash to finish third. We were running fourth in the A Main a handful of laps into it. I brushed the fence down the front straightaway. I could tell at that point my right rear tire was going low. It cut a slash in it. It went flat so we had to get it changed, go to the back and work our way up to 16th. It was definitely disappointing knowing we were in position to be in the top-four locked-in cars for Saturday. Also, it wasn’t the end of the world because we still did our job throughout the weekend so we were fifth in points.”

Aug. 15 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifier: 13 (1); B Main: 1 (1); Feature: 16 (21).

“Our qualifier was stacked,” Brown said. “Brad (Sweet), (James) McFadden, Donny (Schatz), Sheldon (Haudenschild), the list goes on and on. We knew we had to be good. We got out there and got the lead. With two laps to go we had an ignition switch go bad. The car just died and the engine shut off. That was definitely disappointing. That was the dagger really. You can overcome a lot, but when you go from the dash to now having to run the B Main that’s a lot to overcome. That’s just part of it. Sometimes you have luck and sometimes you don’t. We didn’t have luck on Saturday. We were able to win the B Main and start at the back of the A Main. We ran our way up to 16th. We probably had a better car than that, but I got a little anxious and it cost us some spots that we had gained. Chad, Nate and dad did a great job all week long. We had a lot of racing in a short amount of time and they all worked hard and had great attitudes.”
