Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 5, 2020) – Justin Henderson earned a pair of 15th-place finishes behind the wheel of the Mike Sandvig Racing No. 7 last weekend during two nights of racing with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.

Henderson passed a total of 14 cars in feature competition and the team’s total number of top-15 finishes this season now sits at a dozen.

“Any time you have the talent out there like the All Stars do, you know it’s going to be a battle and you’ve got to be on your ‘A’ game from the get-go,” he said. “We had opportunities both nights to be up front and start higher, but the slip ups cost us and that’s where I need to be better as a driver.”

Henderson kicked off the weekend on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where he began the night in time trials by laying down a lap of 15.862 seconds. That ranked 28th among 46 drivers in attendance. He then advanced two positions in a heat race to finish fifth, which was one spot short of locking into the A Main.

Henderson then moved forward three positions in the B Main to finish third, which gave him the 23rd starting spot in the main event. He was on the move early, advancing to 16th by Lap 3. However, with the leader setting a torrid pace and the race going caution free the rest of the way, Henderson struggled to make up more ground and he took the 15th spot on the last lap.

“I screwed up in qualifying and hit a rut and after that it was a fight all night just to get in the show,” he said. “The car was there all night and we were fighting so hard for positions that I honestly felt like we had a better run then the finish showed. But that’s the way it goes when you put yourself behind in time trials.”

On Sunday night the team headed to Huset’s Speedway for the C & B Operations Grand Reopening presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking. Henderson qualified second quickest among 32 drivers with a lap of 11.165 seconds. However, he placed sixth in a heat race and was forced into the B Main. He won that to transfer into the main event.

Henderson started in the 21st position and he began moving forward once the green flag was waved. By Lap 11 he was in 16th and with five laps to go he slid into the 15th position, which is where he finished for the second consecutive night.

“We laid down an outstanding lap in qualifying and I really just let an opportunity slip away by staying on the bottom way too long in the heat,” he said. “After that it was just another night of scratching and clawing to get in the best position possible to be competitive. Being able to pass cars is great, but I felt like we let one get away there for sure.”

Next up for Henderson will be a weekend in his own 360ci sprint car during the 30th annual My Place Hotels Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank at Knoxville Raceway. He will then jump back in the Sandvig Racing 410ci sprint car Aug. 13-15 for The One & Only and the Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

“We’ve got a great opportunity to show our muscle and put it all together during a weekend that will be the talk of the sprint car community and with the World of Outlaws,” he said. “I feel like if we can avoid any big issues and just keep our nose clean we’ve got a team capable of contending and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”
