Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 29, 2020) – Garet Williamson had qualified for a feature event at Knoxville Raceway in the past, but last Saturday was different.

Unlike his last couple of trips to the Marion County Fairgrounds, Williamson was facing a stacked 45-car field that resembled a preliminary night for the upcoming 360 Knoxville Nationals.

Heavy hitters such as Aaron Reutzel and Kerry Madsen joined a group that featured some of the best 360ci sprint car drivers in the country. Williamson managed to make the feature and finished 16th to gain valuable laps and experience at the half-mile oval.

“We were racing in the back with a lot of dirty air, but still, the laps were huge, especially racing on a feature track,” the Bryant Paver Motorsports driver said. “It gives you a chance to know what the car is going to do and helps you find somewhere for the car to be faster and pass cars.

“It’s a huge confidence booster making the field with those guys. It was almost like a prelim night for the Nationals. We learned quite a few things.”

Williamson, who is in his rookie season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, has made three trips to Knoxville Raceway this season. His latest appearance was easily his best, especially when he took to the racing surface in qualifying.

The notes and experience Williamson gained in his first two visits resulted in a ninth-place qualifying effort in his group. After a sub-par heat race, he bounced back to finish second in the B Main before advancing from 22nd to 16th in the main event.

“We are as comfortable as we are going to get for it,” he said in reference to the 360 Knoxville Nationals. “I don’t think you can ever be too prepared to go there, but with everything we’ve learned this is the best chance we’ve had this year to go there and do well.

“Everything that’s went on (this year) has helped us because we were only going to get there one time. It just worked out that we could practice more for the 360 Nationals.”

Williamson will be off this week before the 30th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank runs Aug. 6-8. The team recently got a new trailer and wants to make sure everything is prepared for the 360 Nationals and a hefty schedule that follows.

“We need to get everything ready,” Williamson said. “We just got a new trailer this week and we are going to take our time getting things switched over. We are getting another car finished up and ready for that Speedweek we have right after the Nationals. We will be away two weeks racing and want to be ready.”
