Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 28, 2020) – Justin Henderson piloted the Mike Sandvig Racing No. 7 sprint car to a 12th-place outing last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

The top-15 finish was the 10th of the season for the duo and allowed Henderson to gain 36 points on sixth place in the season’s championship standings. He currently trails by only 35 markers.

“It was a pretty standard weekend where we were not bad, but we definitely were not great,” he said. “Track position has been so important this year at Knoxville and we just didn’t have it in the feature to where we could capitalize enough.”

Henderson began the night in time trials by posting a lap of 16.407 seconds, which was good enough for ninth overall out of 31 cars in attendance. He then finished fifth in a heat race, which placed him on the inside of the sixth row for the feature.

“I went to the top early in the heat race to try and make a pass and I just stayed up there way too long,” he said. “It cost us a few spots and it was the difference in starting sixth or 11th in the feature.”

With only one caution occurring on Lap 2 of the main event and the leaders setting a blistering pace, Henderson struggled to make up ground throughout the duration of the feature as he settled for a 12th-place finish.

“We’d pass a few cars and then we’d lose a few spots and it was just a struggle to really get going,” he said. “It just seemed all night that I was not making the right decisions on where to go and the finish was a result of that.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be a two-race weekend with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1. On Saturday they will run at Knoxville Raceway before heading to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Sunday.

With a host of bigger races remaining on the schedule for the month of August, Henderson is looking forward to the opportunity to see where his team stacks up against a stout field of racers this weekend.

“We’ve ran with the All Stars already this season and we’ve had a little bit of success, so I know we are capable of contending,” he said. “With the Outlaws coming into town here in a few weeks and some bigger shows on the horizon, we can use this weekend as a bit of a measuring stick to see where we are as a program and maybe what we need to do better.”
