Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 28, 2020) – Alex Hill posted a pair of solid runs at tracks in Iowa last week.

Hill visited Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids for the first time on Tuesday for competition with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series.

“I thought we did pretty well for our first time at the track,” she said. “I started on the pole of my heat race. The outside line was the better one to start in. I dropped to second behind the guy who started outside of me and stayed there the rest of the race.”

Hill lined up eighth for the feature.

“I ran eighth for most of the race, running the bottom of the track,” she said. “There was a restart with about 10 laps remaining. At that time, the bottom was starting to go away and the top was taking rubber. I lost a few spots after the restart before I moved to the top, then I passed a car on the final lap to finish 12th. I should’ve changed my line when we restarted.”

Hill returned to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday for her third night of competition there in four weeks against another stout field of 46 cars. The night opened on a bit of a disappointing note when she missed the heat race inversion through qualifying by only one position – timing in 13th out of her group of 23 cars.

“We hurt our best motor in Rock Rapids and used our backup at Knoxville,” she said. “Our backup is still a pretty good motor and races well, but our best motor has more power and probably would’ve given us a better qualifying time.”

After failing to finish her heat race due to a leaking valve cover, Hill started fifth in the B Main.

“We were able to get to third and ran there for most of the race until we got passed late in the race,” she said. “We finished fourth and made the transfer to the A Main.”

Hill started last in the 24-car A Main.

“We did well in the first part of the race and were able to pass about six cars,” she said. “We ran about 10 laps before the first caution and we were rolling the bottom fairly good. Then we had some more cautions. The restarts hurt me a bit and it was difficult for me to get back into a rhythm right away. But overall I was pretty satisfied. That was about the most consistent I’ve been at Knoxville as far as running the bottom and hitting my marks.”

Hill, who finished with an 18th-place outing, will visit another track – Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa – for the first time on Thursday before returning to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday.
