Henderson Leads Sandvig Racing to 11th-Place Finish After Scoring Two 360 Wins

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 21, 2020) – Justin Henderson rebounded from mechanical woes in a heat race for the second consecutive week to pilot the Mike Sandvig Racing No. 7 to an 11th-place finish on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway.

The win came on the heels of two straight 360ci sprint car wins for Henderson at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., on Friday and earlier in the night at Knoxville Raceway. It banked Henderson an extra $3,000 bonus courtesy of team sponsor GRP Motorsports for the weekend sweep.

“Every time I hit the track in both cars we were really fast and I knew we’d be in contention from the first hot-lap session,” he said. “Both cars are essentially sister cars, so to know we have speed in the 360 is a great feeling because we’re learning and applying it to Mike’s car as well.”

Henderson began Saturday night in the Sandvig machine in time trial action by laying down a fastest lap of 17.763 seconds, which was good enough for seventh overall out of 24 cars in attendance. He then started fourth in a heat race, but a mechanical problem caused him to drop out early and finish eighth.

“We laid down a great lap in time trials and we were running along really nice in the heat race and the car jumped out of gear again,” said Henderson, who dealt with a similar problem last weekend. “It was frustrating as we had positioned ourselves for a good starting spot and then the next thing you know you’re in the hole again.”

The team change shifter cables for the feature and Henderson lined up 16th on the starting grid. Beaming with confidence following his win in the 360ci car, Henderson worked his way forward five positions to finish 11th.

“We were able to pass cars, which is reassuring and tells me we are good, but overall it was frustrating coming off the 360 win,” he said. “I made a slight adjustment to my 360 that really paid off so I did the same thing to Mike’s car and we were actually pretty good.

“Passing cars is nice and it was a good thing to salvage a decent outing, but I’d rather be starting further up and passing cars to contend for a win and not have to come through the whole field. It’s just kind of bittersweet honestly, but those things happen.”

Next up for Henderson and Sandvig will be another weekly show at Knoxville Raceway this Saturday. He enters the weekend seventh in the track standings, trailing sixth place by only 71 points.

“We’ve had two straight weeks where mechanical issues cost us good starting spots and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to right the ship a bit and get back on track,” Henderson said. “We know we have good race cars and we know we have speed. I think we learned some things in the 360 that we can keep applying to Mike’s car and I have no doubt we’ll be in contention this weekend.”
