Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 21, 2020) – Brian Brown earned two top-five finishes last Saturday when he competed in two sprint car divisions at ‘The Sprint Car Capital of the World.’

July 18 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa (410 sprint car) – Qualifying: 2; Heat race: 1 (6); Feature: 2 (4).

“I’ve said it a hundred times, double duty is about Chad, Nate and dad doing all the extra work, especially with the temperature being almost 100 degrees,” Brown said. “It was a pretty good night for us.

“We went second quick and won our heat race from sixth. We started fourth in the feature and had a really good battle to try to wrestle the lead from Terry (McCarl). We were able to do it with two or three laps to go, but I let Rico (Abreu) slip by on the last lap. I didn’t protect the bottom when I should have. I was disappointed in myself. Coming off turn two I was going to run the same lane I’d been running, kind of a diamond move. When I got to the center of turn two my car didn’t cut the way it had been so I had to let it drift. If I make that move and it cuts then I probably win, but I didn’t. If I just protect the bottom, because I hit it five or six times during the race, maybe Rico couldn’t get a run. Rico’s last lap was half a second quicker than he’d been running. He ran it is as hard as he needed to and it stuck. It was real similar to a couple weeks ago when I almost passed Justin (Henderson) on the last lap.”

July 18 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa (360 sprint car) – Qualifying: 2; Heat race: 3 (6); Feature: 4 (6).

“It’s important in the coming weeks to getting qualified well,” Brown said. “We did that and moved forward in the heat race. We got into fourth in the feature and I was able to get by Carson (McCarl) for third, but couldn’t make it stick. They broke the 20-lap record. It was tough to make any hay as the race went green to checkered. The top 10 guys there are fast anywhere they go. They have to make mistakes or the track would have to get slicker in that scenario to make any moves. Neither of those happened so we ran fourth.”

UP NEXT – Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa

“We try to look at something every single week to get better or try something,” Brown said. “That’s what we did last weekend. It’s hard when you’re doing double duty to put a focus on a specific car. You’re trying to get them both out there when you get called to staging. The next two weeks will be concentrating on the 410 to make sure we’re as good as we’re going to be when the big race happens next month. I feel like we’re close and getting better. We’re right on the cusp.”
