Starks Pleased With Speed Before Crash Ends Night Early at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 21, 2020) – Trey Starks continued to showcase speed last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
The Gobrecht Motorsports driver qualified 10th quickest and placed third in a heat race to garner the eighth starting position for the A Main.
“We felt really good,” he said. “We were fast right out of the gate. We were decent in qualifying. We had a ton of speed in hot laps so we thought it should have translated a little better in qualifying, but we weren’t far off. Then we were competitive in the heat race.”
Unfortunately, an opening-lap crash resulted in a DNF and a damaged sprint car.
“A car got crossed up in front of us,” Starks said. “We pulled down to the inside of him. He was on the cushion and may have got over the cushion, turned hard left across the track and made contact with our right front. It spun us around and we waited for people to pile into us. We got hit real hard in the front end.”
The team is transitioning to a back-up car in order to get Starks behind the wheel Saturday during the next event at Knoxville Raceway. He enters the night ranked ninth in the championship standings.
First, Starks will pilot his family owned sprint car this Thursday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
“It’ll be nice to get back to Skagit,” he said. “We were fast the last time we were there. I’m looking forward to running around home because you don’t really know these days when you’ll get to race next.”
