Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 21, 2020) – Alex Hill captured her career-best result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Friday night at U.S. 36 Raceway.

“The guys gave me a fast car all night,” said Hill, who finished ninth after starting 15th. “It was really good on the bottom of the track. It was especially nice to get my best ASCS finish on the type of track where I don’t usually do so well.”

Hill’s night began with a draw that placed her fourth in her heat race starting grid.

“We were pretty quick in our heat race,” she said. “I was able to challenge the guy in third, but I couldn’t quite make the pass and finished right behind him in fourth.”

Multiple restarts and a car that worked well running the lower groove aided Hill’s advancement in the night’s main event.

“There were quite a few restarts and I was able to make a lot of my passes then,” she said. “There weren’t very many others who were running the bottom so that helped. The car was especially good off the exits in turns two and four.”

A visit to Knoxville Raceway the following night began well for Hill. With a field of 46 cars on hand, time trials were split into two groups and she timed in 11th quickest in her group before finishing second in her heat race after starting on the pole.

“Qualifying went pretty good, but I think I could’ve had a quicker time if I ran both laps on the bottom instead of running one on the top groove,” she said. “The motor stumbled at the start of the heat race. I think I would have won it if that didn’t happen. I stayed with the leader and got close to him a couple of times, but couldn’t make the pass.”

Her second-place heat race finish placed her in the 19th starting position for the A Main.

“The feature didn’t go quite as well,” she said after ending 23rd. “I had a good car, but I had trouble hitting the bottom in the first part of the race. I eventually got into a rhythm and closed in on the cars in front of me, but it was too late in the race to do much. I need to work on hitting my marks early in the race.”

Up next for Hill will be a first-time visit to Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Tuesday for a Midwest Sprint Touring Series show followed by a return trip to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
