Starks Enjoys Best Weekend of the Season During Doubleheader at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 14, 2020) – Trey Starks produced his most complete weekend of the season last Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver placed fifth during the 360ci main event on Friday before capturing a season-best seventh-place run in 410ci action on Saturday.

“It’s nice to see progress like that,” he said. “We changed some stuff up with wrecking a car last week. We got it all patched back together and the frame repaired. On Friday we ran the 360 event in one of our cars from last year. We were really happy with the car all night.”

Starks qualified fourth quickest before a seventh-place result in a heat race lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We qualified really well for going out late,” he said. “Unfortunately, we knocked the nose wing down in the heat race and just held on to finish seventh.

“We made really good progress up to fifth in the feature. I had a really fast car, potentially a top-three car. Traffic was pretty heavy. I made a couple of bids for fourth and passed Terry (McCarl) a couple of times, but couldn’t stay in front of him. We were really comfortable and I felt really good with our car.”

Starks’ fifth-place outing was his third top five of the season.

“We just swapped motors and put the 410 in the 360 car on Saturday,” he said. “We saw some good progress and results on the second night as well. The rain delay made things a little goofy. We were one of the quicker cars in hot laps and then the rain came. We had two or three hours to think about it. We second guessed ourselves a little and changed too much. In qualifying we were a little off, but we had a great heat race and won it. We had the fastest time in the heats. We were two tenths quicker in our heat race than in qualifying.”

Starks qualified 13th quickest following a several-hour rain delay. He then won a heat race from second to lock into the main event.

“We didn’t have enough points to make the inversion so we started ninth and rolled up to seventh,” he said. “We felt good the whole weekend. I think we’re going to stick with this car and see what progress we can make.”

The seventh-place run was the best of the season in the 410 division at Knoxville Raceway for Starks, who moved up to ninth in the championship standings.

The team will return to action at Knoxville Raceway this Saturday.
