Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 24, 2020) – Trey Starks captured a pair of top-10 finishes last week.
Starks powered his family owned 360ci sprint car to a season-best runner-up result on Thursday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., before he pocketed a 10th-place finish on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway while driving the Gobrecht Motorsports 410ci sprint car.
“It was a good weekend,” he said. “I’m not sure when I’ll get to run again at Skagit, but it was nice to have speed.”
Starks qualified third quickest and advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap A Main. He led the first half of the race before the eventual winner was credited with taking the lead prior to a red flag being waved. Starks ran second for the remainder of the race.
“I tried to slide him in the last corner and just couldn’t quite get there,” he said after finishing second by less than half a second. “We definitely had speed. Hopefully we can continue that the next time we get back to Skagit.”
Starks then traveled to Knoxville Raceway for a weekly show on Saturday. He timed in 18th quickest before a heat race win lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the feature.
“We’re still not there in qualifying,” he said. “We tried some different things and we quickly went away from them after qualifying. We got the heat win, but still had to start midpack in the feature. We picked up a handful of positions throughout the race. We’re still making progress and moving forward, which is good. We just need to start a little closer to the front.”
Starks placed 10th, which was his second top 10 of the season at the track. He ranks 10th in the championship standings, but is only 27 points out of fifth place.
Next up for Starks is a trip to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., this Thursday through Saturday for the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
“I had a lot of fun racing the 360 there last year and we’ve had some good runs in the 410 as well,” he said. “We barely missed the show last time we were there with the IRA Series in May. It’s a place I’m getting more and more familiar with running.”
