Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 16, 2020) – Progress was the key word for Trey Starks last weekend at Knoxville Raceway.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver had identical starts to both nights of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series’ Brownells Big Guns Bash before making progress from Friday’s feature competition to Saturday.

“We had some kinks to still work out,” he said. “We’re trying to get it where we’re comfortable with it. We were in the middle of the pack to go out for qualifying both nights. The track slowed down and we were right in the middle of when the track was making a transition. We were so-so. Unfortunately that doesn’t set you up very good in the heat race. On Friday we had a steering box go out so I was fighting that the whole time in the B Main.”

Starks qualified 15th quickest in his group and finished eighth in a heat race both nights. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the Last Chance Showdown each night. Friday ended with a 15th-place result while Starks rallied to fifth on Saturday, finishing only one position shy of making the main event.

“In the B Main on Saturday we got some stuff figured out,” he said. “We slid for the transfer spot on the last lap, but he turned it underneath us. If we had another lap or two I think we were fast enough to get a transfer. I was really happy with our car at the end of the night. We changed a few things on the car from the first night to the second night and we found a couple things on the car that made me a lot more comfortable and the car more drivable.”

Starks returns to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday for the second weekly show of the season. He recorded a top 10 during the opening round.

“I feel really good,” he said. “I think we have some key things figured out. Running with the Outlaws is tough. You really have to be on it. Getting more A Main laps this Saturday will hopefully help us figure more stuff out on the car.”
