Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 12, 2020) – Jason Sides officially passed nearly a dozen cars on Friday at Knoxville Raceway, where he resumed the season following nearly three months away from the track.

Unfortunately, qualifying put the team in a hole during the first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series show since Feb. 9.

“I was rusty as hell,” he said. “You come back to a race like that place after being off three months and you need laps. That was our whole intention of the night. I wasn’t very comfortable to start the night.”

Sides qualified 23rd quickest in his group, which relegated him to the last starting position in a heat race. He charged from 12th to eighth before maneuvering from 10th to seventh in the Last Chance Showdown. That was only three positions shy of transferring into the main event so Sides took a provisional to tag the field for the 30-lap main event.

“I got to feeling pretty decent throughout the night,” he said. “We passed a few cars in the heat race and the Last Chance Showdown, but not enough. We wanted to get more laps in so we took a provisional so we could race all night. I got comfortable as the night went on.”

Sides gained a half-dozen positions early in the A Main before ending with a 21st-place result.

“We got to 17th and going into one of the corners I got chopped by someone,” he said. “I slid up and two guys went by. Then on one of the last restarts Kerry Madsen got by as did someone else so the restarts didn’t play out in our favor being back there.”

The team plans on venturing to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., this Friday and Saturday for the Great Lakes Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting and Harvey’s Five Star Roofing.

“It’s good to get more laps in,” he said. “The biggest thing is going back to a place that I like. It’s nice and wide and you can run all over it. It’s an all-around nice facility to go to. If there’s an opportunity to run there we’re going to go.”
