Inside Line Promotions – SPENCER, Iowa (May 4, 2020) – Justin Henderson and car owner Mike Sandvig are set to kick off their second season together this Friday at Knoxville Raceway during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event.

“It’s kind of strange, honestly, as it’s been different than any offseason I’ve ever been through,” Henderson said. “Obviously, I can’t wait to race and I’m really pumped up to do so, but it’s a weird feeling that I can’t really describe.”

With a field of 48 invitation-only drivers expected to attend, Henderson is hoping last year’s continued growth as a team as regulars at the famed race track in Knoxville, Iowa, will give them a leg up on the competition as they seek their first victory together.

“I think we are well prepared and I think we have a great car capable of winning, but you really need to be fast off the trailer with everyone being there,” he said. “It’s very much like the Knoxville Nationals where the first three laps of the night might be the difference in a good night or a bad night. We’ll know really quickly where we stand as a team.”

While Friday will be Henderson’s first race of 2020 behind the wheel of a real sprint car, he has participated virtually in a few iRacing events leading up to the weekend.

“The iRacing deal is very unique in that you get to see the visuals and you can kind of see how things work, but ultimately it’s not a real car and can only provide so much,” he said. “It’s the closest thing to racing a sprint car and it’s giving people an outlet to fuel their competitive fires, but nothing really compares to the feeling you get on a track and in a car.”

While Henderson noted it was nice to have virtual track time and some sort of racing to keep him occupied as a driver, he is looking forward to the opportunity to get back on the track, even if it is without fans in the stands as is the case this Friday.

“It’s going to be a weird feeling with no one in the stands and people wearing masks,” he said in reference to the limitations put in place to allow the race to occur. “A lot of our sport is built around fan interaction and communication so I haven’t quite grasped how exactly this is going to work quite yet. But I know there will be a lot of people tuning in from all over and I’m optimistic we’ll give our fans and sponsors something to smile about from afar.”
