Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 14, 2019) – Mason Daniel made progress during his first appearance at the famed Knoxville Nationals.

Daniel posted a 15th-place result last Thursday during his preliminary night of the 59th annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores, which was hosted by Knoxville Raceway.

He opened the action by qualifying 39th quickest and placing third in a heat race, which locked him into the main event. Daniel maneuvered from 20th to 15th.

“Our qualifying night was good,” he said. “We made the main event and advanced. We learned some stuff on how I like the car in the main event so we can move that over to the one remaining race we have here this year as well as future races.”

Daniel returned to the half-mile track on Friday for Hard Knox Night. This time he timed in 32nd quickest in his group. He gained two positions to place eighth in a heat race before the night ended with a 20th-place result in a B Main.

“We ended up messing up in qualifying and that really hurt us,” he said. “We were behind the eight ball all night. Since we didn’t make the main event that buried us on Saturday.”

Friday’s outing relegated Daniel to the E Main on Saturday. He finished third in the race to garner a transfer into the back of the D Main. Daniel wrapped up his inaugural Knoxville Nationals with a 19th-place result.

“We were too tight,” he said. “We made some adjustments to make it better for the D Main and it didn’t. The last two nights weren’t the best, but we were happy with our qualifying night. We moved forward and gained some valuable laps while racing with some great competition.”

Daniel is slated to venture to Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., this Sunday. He captured a win at the track last year.
