Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2019) – Brian Brown earned a top-five result during the 24th annual Sage Fruit Front Row Challenge presented by Musco Lighting before his team fought misfortune throughout the 59th annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores last week.

Aug. 5 – Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa – Qualifying: 5; Heat race: 6 (5); Feature: 5 (10).

“We qualified well and just weren’t that good in the heat,” Brown said. “It was the Knoxville type format so you have to run well in your heat. By not doing that we missed out on the King of the Hill to try to better our starting position. We had to start 10th and were able to get to fifth. It was a pretty good night for the circumstances because there wasn’t a lot of passing.”

Aug. 8 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifying: 6; Heat race: 5 (7); B Main: 9 (3).

“We didn’t draw the best number, but we laid a good qualifying lap down to go sixth quick,” Brown said. “That was an awesome effort. In the heat race I probably didn’t run 10 very good laps. You have to run 10 perfect laps to get through there. We ran three or four perfect ones and four or five averages ones. We had to run the B Main, but because we had good qualifying points that’s not the end of the world if you can get through the B Main and pass cars in the A Main. We started third and was able to get by Daryn (Pittman) and (Tim) Shaffer and set sail. A lap or two in I could tell a tire was going down. A piece of debris on the track cut my tire. It was pretty disappointing. The guys got the tire changed, I got back out and we went from 21st to ninth. That showed the car speed we had.”

Aug. 9 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifying: 10; Heat race: 1 (1); Feature: 22 (11).

“I’m thankful for that Hard Knox format,” Brown said. “We drew well, but for whatever reason that was our worst qualifying effort we had all year at Knoxville. We were able to win the heat and had to start 11th in the A Main. I knew we had to get to fourth to save our Nationals. We were up to sixth off turn two and we had a part failure. That ended our night there.”

Aug. 10 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – C Main: 3 (8); B Main: 12 (23).

“We knew we had our work cut out for us,” Brown said. “Sometimes when you’re in that position you think you’re slow. That wasn’t the case with our car. We were in the C Main because we had bad luck. I still feel today we had one of the top two or three fastest cars at the Knoxville Nationals. Sometimes that time of the night the track can be narrow. We were able to go eighth to third to get us into the B Main. We went 23rd to 12th in 22 laps with one caution and one red very early. When those things happen you need three or four cautions spread out to bunch them back up.

“Overall it wasn’t the Knoxville Nationals we dreamed of. With Chad Morgan, Nate Steinhaus, my dad, my grandpa, Schnook and the other Chad, there was no finger pointing and nobody gave up. Everybody continued to work until the checkered flag flew. It just wasn’t our year.”
