Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 6, 2019) – Mason Daniel produced a career-best performance at the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank last weekend at Knoxville Raceway.

Daniel kicked off the marquee 360ci winged sprint car event by qualifying 23rd quickest before he won a heat race to open Friday’s preliminary action. That locked Daniel into the main event.

“We struggled a bit with qualifying,” he said. “I think the car was good. I just made some mistakes. We started second in the heat race and me and Brady Bacon went at it for the lead the first couple of laps. I was able to pull away and get the win to make some points up.

“(In the feature) I was stagnant and couldn’t make a lot happen. I never could seem to make up any ground. It was a struggle to find the best place to run.”

Daniel’s 13th-place result slotted him 28th in overall points out of more than 90 competitors. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row in the B Main on Saturday. Daniel charged to a third-place showing, which earned a transfer into the final row of the 25-lap A Main.

“I had a really good start and got up to third,” he said. “In the main event we were good on the start again and passed a bunch of cars. I was up to 12th or 13th and made a mistake, which cost us. I caught one driver running the bottom. I went to the top and couldn’t make a head of steam. I went to the bottom and missed on entry. That allowed two cars to get by me. After that it was about finding the right line again.”

Daniel’s 16th-place finish topped last year’s result of 17th.

The team also raced at Knoxville Raceway on Sunday during the 8th annual Bell Helmets Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank. Daniel timed in 23rd quickest in his group, advanced two positions to place sixth in a heat race and ended the night 16th in a B Main.

“We didn’t have the night we wanted, but it was nice to get back in a 410 at Knoxville and get used to what it will be like this week,” he said. “We have a better game plan of what I need to do to make it into the show.”
