Wilson Highlights All Star Weekend in Midwest With Second-Place Showing

Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 31, 2019) – Greg Wilson highlighted a four-race Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions swing throughout the Midwest with a runner-up result last Thursday.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team ventured to Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., to kick off the busy weekend. After qualifying 15th quickest overall and second in his group, Wilson advanced from third to second place in a heat race to qualify for a dash. A third-place run in the dash lined him up on the inside of the third row for the A Main.

“It was one of those nights where we were competitive,” he said. “We got up to second in the feature and I felt like we had a little better car than James (McFadden), but he got through traffic better the last five laps. We had a shot to win. It shows we’re taking steps in the right direction.”

Wilson’s runner-up result marked his best outing of the season with the All Stars.

Action continued on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., where Wilson overcame a tough qualifying run by rallying from sixth to third place in the B Main and from 23rd to 13th in the main event.

“We had a fairly good car,” he said. “The track was a little too good for a lot of passing. We passed some cars, but it was hard to pass. I felt like we had plenty of speed to be competitive. We just didn’t start up there with them.”

Qualifying woes hampered Wilson during the remainder of the weekend as he was buried in a heat race and the B Main on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

“I’ve never been good at big, flat, half-mile tracks,” he said. “We’ve struggled on that kind of race track and we were struggling to get the car stuck on the race track. At Jackson we were a little better with it in the feature, but not at Knoxville. We have an idea of what to do to the race car.”

Wilson managed a second-place finish in the B Main to make the main event on Sunday at 34 Raceway. However, the track took rubber midway through the race and limited passing as Wilson finished 18th.

“That is one of the coolest places I’ve been,” he said. “Hats off to the track and to the Rudeen’s for doing what they did. The track didn’t race the way I thought it would. After going there now I understand why. They have to keep the track really wet because for whatever reason it takes rubber really quick. When it got to the point where it slicked off it took rubber right away and limited passing.”

Wilson will return to Knoxville Raceway this weekend to compete Friday and Saturday during the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

“I was a little frustrated after last Saturday so we’ll make some changes and try to go through everything to make sure there isn’t anything dumb going on,” he said. “We’ve never been really good there. It seems like every year around Nationals time we always wish we were starting the year then because we start rolling. Hopefully we can have a good couple of weekends.”
