Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 30, 2019) – A heat race victory highlighted Alex Hill’s night last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway as she got some laps in prior to this weekend’s 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

“It was pretty cool to win a heat race at Knoxville,” she said. “I was able to get the lead at the start and the car ran great the entire race. Daryl had it dialed in.”

Hill’s night began with a qualifying effort that wasn’t as fast as hoped.

“We went out kind of late (19th of 25 cars) in our group so that didn’t help,” said Hill, who qualified 17th quickest in her group. “Also, we may have had the wrong gear in our car. We changed gears before the heat race and we were faster then.”

Even though she won her heat race, Hill’s point total – from qualifying and the heat race – wasn’t enough for her to make the A Main.

“It was strange that even though I won my heat race I still didn’t qualify for the A Main,” she said.

Hill rolled off seventh in her B Main, with transfer spots going to the top-two finishers.

“I got a bad start and lost several positions,” she said. “I was able to work my way back to seventh. With a few laps to go, I got over the cushion in turn four and almost hit the wall. I lost a spot and finished eighth.”

Hill is looking forward to competing in the 360 Knoxville Nationals this weekend.

“I’m excited for another 360 Nationals,” she said. “This was probably the best I’ve felt at Knoxville in a long time. I felt good in the car and winning the heat race helped my confidence.”

Hill’s preliminary night is Friday prior to the finale on Saturday. She will then race next Tuesday at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, during the Sage Fruit Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Co.
