Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 9, 2019) – Trey Starks tied his career-best 410ci winged sprint car finish at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday when he earned a seventh-place result.
It was a strong finish to the weekend at the half-mile oval for the Gobrecht Motorsports driver.
“We’re getting better and running more consistent the more we’re able to race,” he said. “Getting two nights in a row at Knoxville is great for our team, especially with how little we’ve been able to run this season because of the weather.”
The two-day show began with 360ci winged sprint car competition on Friday. Starks set quick time during his group’s qualifying session before he maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race. The feature inversion lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event, which ended abruptly.
“Someone ran into me on the start and it shot me into another car,” he said. “It was a shame because we had a great car and were in a great position to contend for a podium and possibly a win.”
Starks was credited with a 19th-place run.
The team returned to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday for a 410 winged sprint car race. Starks qualified eighth quickest and placed fifth in a heat race. He lined up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event and gained a trio of positions to finish seventh, which ties his career-best effort he produced earlier this season.
“We turned some good laps and had some great battles on the track,” he said. “In the end it was a positive to move forward and earn another top 10. We’re making gains on our Knoxville program.”
Starks ranks eighth in the Knoxville Raceway championship standings and he is the leading Rookie of the Year contender.
The team plans to race this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., with the Midwest Power Series and Midwest Sprint Touring Series and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
