Inside Line Promotions – AVON, Ind. (July 9, 2019) – Blake Matjoulis was the top finisher for the Swindell SpeedLab eSports Team on Monday evening during Round 3 of the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series season on iRacing.
Matjoulis posted a third-place finish at Knoxville Raceway, giving the team at least one podium finisher in every race this season.
Matjoulis nearly captured the feature victory as he lined up second on a green-white-checkered restart. He dove low in turn one and slid the leader in turn two. However, the race leader crossed Matjoulis over exiting turn two to regain the top spot and contact on the final lap with another competitor cost Matjoulis the runner-up result.
“I knew I had to get a good start,” he said during a post-race interview with the iRacing eSports Network. “Half the deal there is just timing it right. Fortunate enough I got a good start going into (turn) one. Seeing him run the top was amazing because I didn’t think he was going to do that. I figured he’d block the slider. When I got the slider in (turn) two it wasn’t enough to hold him even in (turn) three so that’s what killed it there.”
Teammate Kendal Tucker hustled from 12th to a fifth-place result.
“The track was really wide,” he said during a post-race interview with the iRacing eSports Network. “You could run the middle, the bottom, the top for most of the race. I wanted to make my setup maneuverable enough to run every line. I hate I wasn’t able to run the bottom like I really wanted to. I was a little too free down there.”
Swindell SpeedLab drivers Blake Cannon and Adam Elby placed sixth and 11th, respectively.
Cannon ranks second in the championship standings – only three points out of the lead. Matjoulis is fourth and Tucker is fifth.
The next series race is Monday at Eldora Speedway.
