Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 19, 2019) – Mason Daniel tied his season-best finish of a runner-up result last Thursday during a Sprint Invaders show at Eldon Raceway.

Daniel kicked off his debut at the bullring in Eldon, Iowa, by finishing third in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I drove up to second when I got into an infield tire around Lap 20,” he said. “It made the car weird on entry because the left front was towed out. Austin McCarl got back by me for second. I had to figure out how to drive it with it handling the way it did. That took me a couple of laps, but we got back to second coming to the white flag.

“I hadn’t run a 360 car all this month and to run second in it is always good. We’re improving every time we hit the track. I’m improving and making fewer mistakes. We’re happy to move in the right direction the last couple of weeks.”

Daniel also ran well on Friday during the opening night of the Brownells Big Guns Bash at Knoxville Raceway. He qualified a career-best seventh in his World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series group before placing a career-best third in a heat race. That lined him up ninth for the A Main.

“I was really confident,” he said. “We had a really good car and I was really comfortable. With the car we had and the setup we had I was looking forward to battling. Sadly, before Lap 10 I lost brakes. Something hit the brake line. Once you don’t have brakes and get into dirty air, you can’t run the bottom and can push through the cushion. Basically I was hanging on. The smarter move looking back would be to pull in, but I was trying my best to hold on.”

Daniel faded to a 21st-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

“Hats off to Knoxville for getting the track racy again after all that rain,” he said. “It was hooked up and narrow. We made a mistake in qualifying. The car was good and I ran straight, but I got half a tire width over from where I needed to be and bogged the motor down too much. It set us behind all night long. If you qualify bad you’re in the back of a heat race. There weren’t a lot of guys getting around cars. In the B Main the track finally got wide enough where you could make some moves, but 12 laps goes very quickly.”

Daniel timed in 18th quickest in his group. He placed ninth in a heat race before rallying from 15th to 10th in the Last Chance Showdown.

The team is scheduled to return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway before heading to Dubuque Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa, on Sunday for a World of Outlaws event.
