Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 18, 2019) – Trey Starks continues to hold onto the top rookie status at Knoxville Raceway following a tough World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader last weekend.

Starks kicked off the Brownells Big Guns Bash on Friday by qualifying 14th quickest in his group. The Gobrecht Motorsports driver advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race and from seventh to fifth place in the Last Chance Showdown, but each time he was only one position shy of transferring into the main event.

“We didn’t have the qualifying results that we wanted,” he said. “It seemed like we were battling for a transfer spot all night. We raced (James) McFadden back and forth for the transfer in the heat and the same thing with Ian Madsen in the B Main. We were close, but didn’t quite finish it out.”

Saturday was an improvement as Starks timed in 12th quickest in his group. He gained a position in a heat race to finish fifth, which locked him into the main event. Unfortunately, a blown right rear tire relegated him to the back of the field.

“We ended up with a flat tire three laps in and that put us behind,” he said. “We got it changed and back out there, but it put us to the tail. The track was tough to race on because of all the rain. We just tried to salvage the weekend and survive and roll the car into the trailer in one piece.”

Starks closed the night by placing 22nd in the feature.

He is slated to compete this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., with the Midwest Power Series; Saturday at Knoxville Raceway; and Sunday at Dubuque Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa, with the World of Outlaws.

“I’m really excited to get back to Jackson,” he said. “We had a really good run there two weeks ago so I think we have a good shot to win there. We’re excited to keep working on what we’re building on at Knoxville, too. And I love new tracks so I’m excited to see what’s in store in Dubuque.”
