Henderson and Sandvig Continue to Gel During World of Outlaws Weekend at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 18, 2019) – The growth of the Mike Sandvig owned sprint car team continues to show as Justin Henderson is in his first full year behind the wheel.

The team is focusing on 410ci winged sprint car racing – primarily at Knoxville Raceway – through the summer before closing the year by hitting some marquee 360ci winged sprint car shows.

“We got together in the fall of last year,” said Sandvig, who has owned a sprint car for approximately 20 years. “We’re trying to get a baseline. We’re behind the eight ball because of Mother Nature. We both own our own businesses so we can’t just take off and travel. The racing has to fit into our schedules. We’re basically chasing points at Knoxville and then we’ll do the Jackson Nationals and some other shows.”

The team had a half-dozen starts under its belt entering the Brownells Big Guns Bash at Knoxville Raceway last weekend. The action began on Friday with Henderson qualifying 17th quickest in his World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series group. He then advanced from ninth to eighth place in a heat race and from 13th to sixth place in the Last Chance Showdown, ending the night only two positions out of transferring to the main event.

“We just didn’t qualify very well and that put us behind for the rest of the night,” Henderson said. “We passed quite a few cars in the B Main. We were maneuverable and raced well, but just couldn’t make it to the transfer.”

Saturday was a bit smoother for the team as Henderson timed in 11th quickest in his group. A sixth-place heat race run was followed by a third-place outing in the Last Chance Showdown. Henderson closed the night by gaining a pair of positions to place 21st in the feature.

“We had a decent starting spot in the heat, but on the first lap I jumped Jacob Allen’s tire and fell back,” he said. “We made it back up to sixth, but didn’t get a transfer. We felt strong in the B Main. Then in the feature, starting as far back as we did, we never really got our speed up fast enough and wasn’t able to pass cars.

“We learned a lot about the car and the balance. I feel like we took a lot of good things away from Friday and Saturday night. When you race that many extra good cars at one night you can learn a lot.”

The team is slated to return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
