Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 4, 2019) – Ryan Bowers registered his first career heat race win and a career-best feature finish at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday.

The BDS Motorsports driver capped a busy two-day weekend by qualifying 11th quickest in his group at the half-mile oval, where he was making his third career visit.

“I felt confident in the car,” he said. “It looked like the bottom was where we needed to be. With my experience we stuck with the top and made that work. That put us in the heat inversion. We got a good start, but things got a little dicy and we fell to second. We got into traffic with two laps to go and I was able to make a last-lap pass to win my first heat at Knoxville.”

Bowers’ late-race move combined with his qualifying run put him 18th in overall points out of 48 competitors. That locked him into the 18th starting position for the A Main.

“With combined points from qualifying and the heat win that put us starting toward the back,” he said. “We tried some stuff with the car and it didn’t fit perfect. We learned a bunch and will use that moving forward. I think we might have been a little too tight for how I drive. We made some notes and we’ll be better.”

Bowers finished 20th in the feature.

The weekend began the previous night at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson., Minn., which hosted a Midwest Power Series and Midwest Sprint Touring Series show that featured 46 drivers. Bowers placed third in a heat race and second in a B Main to advance into the main event. He wrapped up the night by maneuvering from 20th to 16th in the A Main.

“I think it went well,” he said. “The track had a lot of character as some people would say. That made racing difficult. All in all it was a good, solid night. It was only our second night in the car so we’re still trying to dial things in. We’d been sitting idle for a month with weather and the schedule. We drove hard in the feature. When you’re starting that far back everyone is going everywhere. It’s hard to execute a pass because none of us could keep our cars where we wanted to.”

Bowers will return to Jackson Motorplex this Friday before making his 410ci winged sprint car season debut on Saturday at Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, Minn., with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
