Starks Excited for Doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions – PUYALLUP, Wash. (May 20, 2019) – The rainouts continue to stack up for Trey Starks, who lost both opportunities to race last weekend because of rain.
That makes six of nine scheduled races that have been cancelled or postponed because of wet weather to start the season for Gobrecht Motorsports.
“I think everyone is pretty tired of the continual rain,” he said. “You always expect a couple of rainouts early in the year, but to have lost as many as we have so far has been frustrating. We’re hoping the weather will turn for the better soon and we can start racing every weekend.”
The next opportunity is a doubleheader hosted by Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday.
“We’re grateful for Knoxville Raceway to add a show on Friday to make up for how many have been lost,” he said. “They didn’t have to do that so it shows how committed they are to racing and the teams that support the track.”
Starks made a lot of headway between the Knoxville Raceway season opener on April 20 and his second start on May 4, when he scored his first career top 10 in the 410ci winged sprint car division at the ‘Sprint Car Capital of the World.’
“We’ve said this the last couple of weeks and then the races rain out, but we’re really looking forward to seeing what race No. 3 has in store for us at Knoxville,” he said. “It was such a big improvement from the first to second race that we want to keep moving forward and getting better. The only way we can do that is to get consistent laps there.”
Starks enters the weekend ranked 12th in the championship standings.
