Brian Brown Highlights Weekend With Another Trip To Victory Lane at Knoxville
Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 6, 2019) – Brian Brown continued his domination at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday by capping a two-race weekend with a visit to Victory Lane. It marked his 46th career win in the 410ci winged sprint car division at the track.
May 3 – I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. – Heat race: 5 (5); Feature: 9 (16).
“We started off well,” Brown said. “We were the quickest in hot laps. In the heat race I tried to make a move around a car in turns three and four and got real tight. Probably too much 410 racing and not enough 360 racing. I lost two spots, but was able to get back to fifth. That wasn’t very good passing points so we started 16th in the feature. The race went non-stop. We passed everybody we came to, but in 25 laps of wide open and never lifting ninth was the best we could do.”
May 4 – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa – Qualifying: 2; Heat race: 1 (6); Feature: 1 (6).
“We went out and hit the bottom in both laps and qualified real well,” Brown said. “That’s exciting because late in the year you might have to do those things at some of the bigger races. In the heat we drove from sixth to win it, which was good. We got a decent start in the feature. They were racing two wide in front of us. Once we could get a clean lane we could make some passes. We got to third. Then we were able to sneak by Kerry (Madsen) and then sneak by Josh (Schneiderman) for the lead. We burnt a piston in our engine. There was a red with about eight laps to go. It was blowing up at that point. The car owner was saying pull in and the driver said no. The driver won that debate. We’re lucky our engines have great power and are durable to hold together.
“Other than being one spot better in qualifying we couldn’t ask for much more. For me driving-wise it’s probably the best I’ve been able to go all over the track. I’ve always been able to run the top pretty well, but the bottom has been a hindrance. We’ve found some things with our car to make it more manageable down there. That’s also a testament to the Dunkin’s because you can’t ask for a better track than that and to my guys for their hard work.”
UP NEXT – Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa or Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series
“We planned to go to Jackson on Friday, but they had too much rain and were forced to cancel,” Brown said. “We’ll look at all the options. We don’t want to go all the way to Ohio and get rained out. Knoxville looks like it will have pretty good weather. We’ll look at the weather Thursday and make a decision.”
