Brian Brown Pleased With Career-Best Season at Knoxville Raceway Despite Tough Finale

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 29, 2018) – Brian Brown produced the best season of his career at Knoxville Raceway this year when he scored eight combined feature victories during 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car competition.

His seven 410 wins and lone 360 triumph marked his most trips to Victory Lane in a single season at the half-mile oval and he was on pace to net another victory last Saturday during its final sprint car race of the season.

After qualifying was scrapped because of a two-hour delay from a power problem, Brown won a heat race and garnered enough points to make the feature redraw. He lined up on the inside of the second row for the 25-lap main event.

“We didn’t get a very good start on the initial start, but there was a caution,” he said. “We regrouped and were able to get the lead and really cruise. It was one of the better cars I’ve had in a while. We were in a test and tune mode. We tried more things Saturday night than we have in the last three years. We gained on some things so hats off to Chad, my dad and Michael for their hard work.”

Brown led the first 21 laps before the u-joint expired, ending his night prematurely with a 19th-place result.

“I figured that’s probably what it was by the way it was vibrating,” he said. “It’s been a month full of vibrations between the tire vibrations at the Knoxville Nationals and this with the u-joint. I was running half throttle max trying to limp it home. We came up a few laps short. It was unfortunate that we had that good of a race car and was on our way to another win when it happened, but fortunately it didn’t get my leg so it could have been a lot worse.

“We had a good year at Knoxville with seven wins and eight counting the 360 race. When we left in July we were leading the points. When we were there we were the car to beat. It’s probably our best year at Knoxville overall. Congrats to fellow driver Casey’s driver Austin McCarl on his championship.”

Brown is scheduled to return to action this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., during the 9th annual LOS 360 Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.

“We won the Lake Ozark Nationals probably in 2006,” he said. “We had an awesome battle with Jesse Hockett and were able to win that one. Last year we had a good battle with (Jonathan) Cornell and came up just a little short. We have some good notes and with any luck should be able to contend.”
