Wilson Shows Progress Throughout Challenging Knoxville Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2018) – The theme for Greg Wilson throughout the 58th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores was progress.
Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels sponsored team progressed throughout the biggest sprint car event of the season last weekend at Knoxville Raceway, where Wilson posted his best result since 2015.
The event began on Thursday for Wilson, who narrowly missed the heat race inversion via qualifying. However, he powered from ninth to sixth place in a heat race and from 18th to 10th place in the B Main.
“We went out and laid an egg in qualifying and that just puts you behind,” he said. “We passed cars and almost made it out of our heat race. Then we passed a ton of cars in the B Main.”
That progress continued to show the following night as Wilson timed in eighth quickest in his group before a runner-up result in a heat race locked him into the ninth starting position for the A Main.
“We laid down a good qualifying lap and ripped it in the heat race,” he said. “We were running seventh or eighth in the feature and felt like we had a car that would be good at the end when we had a part failure.”
Unfortunately, the DNF relegated him to the eighth starting spot in the C Main on Saturday. Wilson advanced a couple of positions before finishing sixth, which ended up being one spot shy of transferring into the B Main. It marked his best result during the Knoxville Nationals since an eighth-place finish in the B Main in 2015.
“Once again we moved forward,” he said. “I’m super proud of the progress we made. I can honestly say I’ve never left here feeling exciting to come back. Leaving here I wish the 2019 Knoxville Nationals was tomorrow.
“A huge thanks to my cousin, Kent, and to Shannon Wheatley of Redlined Welding & Construction, who is a good friends of ours. He really helped us straighten some stuff out on our race car. I think that was a huge part of why we improved.”
Wilson will return to action with the World of Outlaws this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., for the 2nd Leg of the Northern Tour and Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., for the Duel in the Dakotas.
Wilson also has Hercules Tires dealership visits on tap for Wednesday at Cenex Tire Pros in Alexandria, Minn., from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday at Interstate Power Systems in Grand Forks, N.D., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
