Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (Aug. 8, 2018) – The biggest event of the season for sprint car racing is on tap for Greg Wilson, who will head to Iowa this week to tackle the 58th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels backed team are scheduled to compete at Knoxville Raceway during the marquee event this Wednesday through Saturday.

“The Knoxville Nationals is the ultimate testing ground for every sprint car driver,” he said. “If you can have a great performance on that stage you definitely earned it and it means a lot. I think the goal for most teams is to simply make the A Main on Saturday. If you accomplish that feat it’s been a great event.”

Wilson raced last weekend during the Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. He opened the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader on Friday by qualifying 21st quickest. However, a charge from seventh to second place during a heat race garnered a spot into the dash.

“We got the bottom working really well in the heat and were able to pick guys off one by one,” he said. “That was exciting to drive up through there. We had a great car and nobody in front of us ran the bottom so we were able to run our race.”

A fourth-place finish in the dash lined Wilson up fourth for the A Main.

“Everything went well for the first half of the night, but we missed it just a bit with our setup in the main event,” he said. “When you’re racing with the World of Outlaws you have to be spot on. The good thing is that we’re constantly learning and working on improving our team so we’ll take what we learned and apply it to similar circumstances in the future.”

Wilson, who finished 17th, returned to the high-banked track on Saturday. He timed in 20th quickest before advancing a spot to finish sixth in a heat race and 16th in the main event.

“We didn’t get the A Main results we wanted either night, but we can tell we’re making gains with our new package,” he said. “I’m excited to get to Knoxville to see how much progress we can make on that stage.”
