Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 7, 2018) – Kerry Madsen is right where he wants to be entering the 58th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores.

The Big Game Motorsports driver was recently victorious at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, which hosts sprint car racing’s biggest event this Wednesday through Saturday. He also garnered the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars last Sunday during the 7th annual Weld Racing Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank – the final tune-up before the prestigious Knoxville Nationals.

“Guy Forbrook and the team have worked really hard and we’re seeing it pay off,” Madsen said. “We’ve had the speed all year long, but were just missing on some luck and minor details. Now it’s good to see that not only can we win races, we can maneuver through the field and charge from the back to the front.”

Madsen opened the Capitani Classic on Sunday by qualifying third quickest in his group. However, a fourth-place finish in a heat race missed locking into the A Main by only one position. That relegated the Muddy sponsored team to a B Main, which they won to line up on the outside of the 10th row for the main event.

“We had a great race car and we were able to work our way through the field,” Madsen said. “I think if we had a few more laps we could have made even more progress. That is really encouraging to have that kind of speed heading into the Knoxville Nationals.”

Madsen rallied from 20th to a sixth-place result.

He continued to march forward on Sunday during the Sage Fruit Front Row Challenge presented by Musco Lighting at Southern Iowa Speedway. Madsen timed in second quickest overall and advanced from sixth to fourth place in a heat race to lock into the King of the Hill. He won the first round before placing third in the second round. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“We were right there between second and fifth the entire race,” he said. “The top two were right in front of us as well. We ended up running into an infield tire that got pushed onto the track. It flattened our left front tire and bent the front axle so it was a good result to be able to hang onto a top five.”

Madsen’s fourth-place finish was his 16th top five of the season.
