Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 4, 2018) – Brian Brown has earned a starting position into the 28th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank A Main on Saturday after a tremendous preliminary night Thursday at Knoxville Raceway.

Brown qualified third quickest out of 43 competitors to set the stage for a solid weekend at the half-mile oval.

“We drew a decent number and cut a good lap,” he said. “That’s obstacle No. 1. The second obstacle is getting to at least fourth in a heat race to get locked in.”

Brown accomplished his second mission by charging from sixth to third place during his heat race. That locked him into the seventh starting position for the 20-lap A Main.

“It was pretty hectic,” he said. “I’m sure the fans love it. When you race with great drivers like Greg Hodnett you can race close and race fun. Too bad that wasn’t for the lead.”

Brown spent many laps of the main event in a torrid battle with Hodnett for a top-five position before he secured the spot en route to a fourth-place finish. Brown was the high-points driver from the opening night of the 360 Knoxville Nationals.

“I didn’t feel like my car was that great,” he said. “To come out of there with a fourth-place finish and to be the high-points driver, it’s a solid night. It was uneventful, but that’s good on a prelim night. I didn’t feel like my car was capable of winning. Instead of overdriving it and making a mistake that cost us I tried to be smart and keep ourselves in contention for Saturday.”

Following Friday’s preliminary night Brown was tied for third in overall points out of more than 90 drivers. That will start him fourth in Saturday’s A Main – his best starting position since winning the event in 2014 from the pole.

This marks the seventh consecutive season Brown has qualified for the main event during the 360 Knoxville Nationals finale.
