Carney Set for Southern Iowa Speedweeks

Lonnie Wheatley, EL PASO, Texas (August 1, 2018) – John Carney II is all set for Southern Iowa Speedweeks action over the next two weeks with the California-based Clayton Snow No. 7 Sprint Car team.

It all begins with this week’s 28th Annual Knoxville 360 Nationals at the famed Knoxville Raceway at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, IA. Carney will take in Thursday night’s qualifying action before Saturday’s championship finale.

“We just picked up a new engine, so we should be up to speed now,” Carney said after testing the 360-ci waters with Sunday night’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Iowa’s Mason City Motor Speedway. “What we were running really wasn’t up to speed, this will get us where we need to be.”

After the Knoxville 360 Nationals, racing action shifts to 410-ci competition at Knoxville with Sunday night’s Seventh Annual Capitani Classic.

From there, it’s on to Oskaloosa’s Southern Iowa Speedway over the next two nights with Monday’s $20,000-to-win Front Row Challenge for 410-ci Sprint Cars and then Tuesday’s 360-ci ASCS Ultimate Challenge.

Southern Iowa Speedweeks then culminates with the 58th Annual Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway on August 8-11. Carney is set to take in the Thursday night, August 9, Toyota Qualifying night segment of the event before the Friday and Saturday portions.

Carney took in this past weekend’s All Star Circuit of Champions events at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex and Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway along with the ASCS card at Mason City. While Carney and the Snow No. 7 team didn’t find the results they were looking for, they learned some things that could prove invaluable.

“We had some fueling issues, it turns out we were way off. And then we found some steering box issues too,” Carney explains. “We made some improvements at Knoxville after Jackson on Friday night, so we’re moving in the right direction. At least we have a little bit of information to work with going into Nationals.”

Carney goes into Southern Iowa Speedweeks after a recent runner-up finish in “Speedweek Northwest” points and a seventh-place finish in ASCS Speedweek points.

Getting the fuel system dialed in on the 410-ci and with a new powerplant in place for 360-ci action, it all begins on Thursday night for Carney and the Clayton Snow No. 7 Sprint Car with the Knoxville 360 Nationals.

John Carney Racing is made possible by the support of invaluable partners including Mesilla Valley Transportation, Vado Speedway Park, South Plains Auto Transport, Danny Sander Construction, CSR Garage, Briley Trucking, Momentum Racing Suspensions, Performance Plus, Performance Motor Coach, Raider Graphix, MSD Ignition, Joe Hunt Magnetos and Bell Helmets.
