Daniel Earns Podium Finish During Debut at Bloomfield Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 24, 2018) – Mason Daniel found himself on the podium last Thursday during his debut at Bloomfield Speedway in an event with the Sprint Invaders.

Daniel opened the night by charging from seventh to second in the first heat race at the oval in Bloomfield, Iowa. The native of Springville, Calif., followed that up with a win in the dash and he wound up starting fifth in the 25-lap main event.

“The track had a lot of character and I really liked it,” he said. “We were fast all night. In the feature we were able to make some moves in lapped traffic. I was able to get up to third on a restart. With two laps to go we closed on second place, but couldn’t make anything happen. It was a solid run and a fun track to race at.”

Daniel’s third-place result guided him into a return visit to U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., on Friday with the ASCS Warrior Region. He finished third in the second heat race, which lined him up 11th in the 25-lap main event. Contact on the start led to Daniel spinning, which resulted in something breaking on the front of the car. His night ended soon after.

“It was a rough night,” he said. “I made some mistakes and was probably too aggressive on the start. I should have stopped after spinning, but I got caught up in the moment and kept going. I went in the corner and just couldn’t turn the car and we made contact with the wall. That’s not the way to go out. I should have stopped earlier.”

Daniel was among the top 10 in time trials in a stacked 36-car field last Saturday night at the historic Knoxville Raceway. Unfortunately, he was involved in an accident in his heat race, which caused too much damage to continue for the remainder of the race program.

“I know better on half miles that you can’t get that close to someone and pull them in because of the air,” he said. “I just got caught up in the moment racing hard and it cost us again. With no air on the front of the car, I went straight and got into the cushion and spun the car and backed it into the wall. It was rookie mistake. I just hate it for the crew because we were fast both nights.”

Daniel will compete this Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints before returning to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
