Nienhiser Third with ASCS Warrior Region at US 36

PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul Nienhiser put together a strong weekend of racing that included a third place run with the ASCS Warrior Region on Friday night and a 14th place finish in the feature at Knoxville Raceway after lining up 13th in the ‘B’ to start the night.

“Overall I would give our weekend a B+ type of grade,” Paul Nienhiser said. “The only way it can really get better is if were in victory lane, but I feel extremely confident in our program heading into a big stretch in our season.”

The Chapin, IL driver made the trip to US 36 Raceway in Cameron, MO on Friday night where he would take on the ASCS Warrior Region as well as some Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour regulars. Drawing the outside pole for his heat race, Nienhiser would take care of business as he would rocket into the lead and search around the speedway looking for his preferred line before picking up the win.

By way of his point total, Nienhiser would find himself in the nightly redraw where the four pill put him in the second row for the feature event. When the feature event went green, Nienhiser began mixing it up on the high banked surface as he would get up as high as the second spot at times and as low as sixth as cars battled extremely close.

Settling into third behind Seth Bergman and Jonathan Cornell, Nienhiser would make things work using the low groove of the speedway. Changing lines with about five laps to go, Nienhiser would work his way to the cushion, where he would gain a ton of speed and close in on the lead duo as he would finish right on Cornell’s rear bumper and on the podium with a third place finish.

“I wish I would have pulled the trigger and move up top earlier in the race because I think we might have had something for those guys,” Nienhiser said. “Overall it was a good night, and a lot of fun on a track that I have always wanted to run at.”

Saturday night Ninehiser and company would travel to Knoxville, IA to tune up for the upcoming Knoxville Nationals. Having issues in hot laps, a new set up in time trials would prove to not be very good for Nienhiser as he would end up 33rd in time trials.

With a ton of work to do, Nienhiser and company would go back to a more baseline set up on the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design entry for heat race action where a seventh place finish put him 13th in the semi.

Nienhiser would come to life in the semi, as he laid down some great laps in the fast paced 10-lapper. Gaining seemingly a position a lap, Nienhiser would keep his night alive as he would race his way to a third place finish and transfer into the 18-lap feature event. Lining up 23rd on the starting grid, Nienhiser would continue to run well after his impressive semi and got as high as 12th.

With a handful of laps to go, Nienhiser’s nose piece would fracture and it would take air off the front axle and drastically change the handling of the car. Holding on, Nienhise would end his night with a 14th place finish.

“With how the night started, I am definitely pleased with the direction we are heading at Knoxville Raceway,” Nienhiser added. “It is a tough place for a driver and a crew chief and since I get to wear both of those hats I feel like I am learning twice as much. I am looking forward to getting back there soon and trying again.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, JRC Transportation, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.
