Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 25, 2018) – Mason Daniel backed up his win at Knoxville Raceway a week ago with another strong performance last Saturday when he finished on the podium at the famed half-mile oval.
The young Californian kicked off the night as the fastest driver in time trials out of the 19 entrants in attendance.
“It felt great to be fast again right out of the box,” he said. “Our KPC Chassis and Moyle Racing engine was right on the money. Everything was going well and the setup was right on. We actually got one lap in during qualifying and the yellow (flag) came out and right after that we got another lap and that’s when we shot to the top of the board.”
Daniel started sixth in the first heat race and finished in that same position, which put him on the pole for the 20-lap main event. He jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the first six circuits.
“I kept the lead after the first yellow and then another yellow came out and that’s when a lack of experience got us,” he said. “Clint Garner was behind us and he has 40-something wins at Knoxville and has been racing there forever. A mistake cost us and then after that I wasn’t able to get back up there. It was a learning experience and next time on restarts I’ll know what to do and how to protect the lead.”
Daniel finished third behind multi-time track champion Clint Garner and Ryan Giles to give him two straight podiums at Knoxville Raceway to go along with his first career quick time at the track.
“We wanted to show everyone that it wasn’t a one-time occurrence and that we can consistently run up front,” Daniel said of returning a week after his win at the track. “We were able to do that last weekend and going forward we want to keep running up front and getting quick times. Hopefully all of that will lead to some more wins.”
This weekend Daniel will race on Friday night at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region. On Saturday, Daniel will either continue on to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region or head north to Knoxville Raceway.
