Inside Line Promotions – MASON CITY, Iowa (July 31, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi posted a top-10 finish during his debut at Jackson Motorplex last Friday.

The night began when the family owned, Roth Motorsports sponsored team qualified fourth quickest at the half-mile oval. Scelzi then finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race, which was one spot shy of making the feature inversion. He started the main event on the inside of the seventh row.

“The first half of the race we didn’t do much passing, but I changed what I was doing and we were able to move forward,” he said. “I changed how I was running the corner and that made a huge difference.”

Scelzi began to maneuver forward during the final dozen laps as he advanced to an eighth-place result.

The team ventured to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday for a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

“We struggled on Saturday getting the motor to take off and we were off a bit,” he said. “It was a work in progress throughout the night.”

Scelzi qualified 11th quickest in his group before he placed sixth in a heat race and seventh in a B Main.

“I think we learned what we needed to learn with the motor and we know where we need to go with the race car,” he said. “We have a good game plan of what we need to do now.”

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Mason City Motor Speedway, where Scelzi placed fourth in a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race to lock into the 14th starting position for the main event.

“On Sunday night the track was rubber down in the heat race,” he said. “I started second, but by the time I was at the flag stand I was running fourth. Passing was at a premium in the A Main as well. There were a lot of good cars there. Our focus was getting everything right for the upcoming 360 Knoxville Nationals to make sure we’re fully ready for this week’s big event.”

Next up for Scelzi, who finished 24th, will be his return to Knoxville Raceway, which hosts the 27th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank this Thursday through Saturday.

“I feel like we’re really meshing as a team,” he said. “I truly believe if we get the right breaks and I can make good laps and we can have the car like we’ve had on the shorter tracks we’ll be a contender.”
