Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (June 12, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi enjoyed a strong start to his summer in the Midwest last weekend when he earned a top-10 finish with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

“I thought it was awesome,” he said. “We were able to start off really strong at Knoxville. To be able to go third quick with the Outlaws, my best qualifying effort with them, was an accomplishment.”

The competition began last Friday when Scelzi and the Roth Motorsports backed, family owned team opened the World of Outlaws doubleheader at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, by qualifying third quickest in a group and overall. Scelzi then placed third in a heat race to miss making the dash by only one position. That lined him up ninth for the main event.

“The track was really slick and wide,” he said. “I was able to run the bottom really well. I was in eighth for a little bit. In the closing laps I slipped out of the rubber and Jason Johnson got by me so we ended ninth. When there’s 42 cars there and you run ninth at Knoxville, it felt like a win to me.”

Scelzi’s ninth-place result was his first top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws.

The event finale was Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. Scelzi qualified 15th quickest in his group before he advanced from eighth to sixth place in a heat race to miss locking into the main event by only one spot.

“We were the second-to-last car out and I didn’t put down the laps I needed to in qualifying,” he said. “We just missed making it to the main through the heat race. In the Last Chance Showdown we were up to sixth early, but mud knocked the No. 7 plug wire off and the engine wasn’t running like it should so I pulled it in.”

Scelzi exited the Last Chance Showdown early.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at 34 Raceway, where Scelzi made his debut during an All Star event.

“Every corner on the place was different,” he said. “It was a neat track. We hot lapped decent and were quick time in our group and sixth overall. We didn’t get the start we wanted in the heat, but I was able to get to third behind Danny (Lasoski) and Ian (Madsen).”

That lined Scelzi up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“I was running the bottom the first half of the race,” he said. “I passed a guy through the middle and then moved to the bottom. The guy I passed went to the top and made that work so I followed him. We were all under a blanket from about third through eighth at the end. It was neat to get my best All Star finish at a place I’ve never been to.”

Scelzi recorded a seventh-place finish, which marked his sixth top 10 of the season.

He is scheduled to make his debut at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., on Tuesday with the World of Outlaws before competing on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway and on Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., with the IRA Series.
