Helms Prepares for Knoxville Nationals After All Star Weekend Washes Out

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 10, 2017) – Mother Nature was the winner with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions last weekend and it sent Caleb Helms west to Knoxville Raceway in preparation for the Knoxville Nationals in August.

Helms timed in 22nd quickest in time trials during his season debut at the famed half-mile oval on Saturday.

“We ran out of fuel during qualifying so we didn’t get a good lap in before it started sputtering,” he said. “That kind of set the tone for the rest of the night.”

Helms finished where he started – seventh – in a heat race and he took the green flag from the 22nd starting spot in the main event.

“It’s a race track that we’re not really used to,” he said. “We haven’t been out here in a while, so we tried some new things. Whether it worked or not, we still learned a little bit about that place.”

After 20 laps around the ‘Sprint Car Capital of the World,’ Helms moved forward a few positions to end with a 19th-place result.

“It wasn’t the weekend we were hoping for,” he said. “But we did make the feature and get some laps logged. Hopefully, if the schedule allows it, we would like to try and get back out there for another race before the Nationals.”

Helms will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

“I’m excited to race with the Outlaws and get another race in in Ohio,” he said. “The competition level is pretty high. Hopefully we can get another good finish to add to our season.”
