Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 8, 2017) – Kerry Madsen guided Big Game Motorsports to a pair of strong results last weekend when the Muddy sponsored team competed in two races during the same weekend for the first time in almost two months.
The action began on Friday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., where Madsen qualified fourth quickest before winning a heat race at the Sedalia Show-Me Showdown with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
That locked him into the dash, in which a fifth-place result lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event. Madsen maneuvered into the runner-up position prior to a late-race restart.
“It was a good run and the car was extremely quick,” he said. “On the restart with two laps to go I didn’t challenge for the lead as good as I should and lost a spot. I should have ran the bottom hard and could have challenged for the lead. I tried to run off his right rear coming to the cone and lost a bunch of time. I fell in line and gave away a spot.”
Madsen ended with a third-place result, which marked his first podium of the season in World of Outlaws competition.
“I was pumped we had a good run,” he said. “We haven’t raced much in the last two months so I was excited we were up to speed and on pace.”
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where the Muddy backed team timed in third quickest before advancing from sixth to fourth place in a heat race.
“We were really good in qualifying, but in the heat race and main event we weren’t great,” he said. “We never got the balance close. On a restart I tried something and gave away a bunch of spots. Our car would come alive after about eight laps, but on short runs we weren’t even close. No excuses; we just weren’t very good in the A Main.”
Madsen battled for a top five throughout the main event before ending seventh, which was the team’s 10th top 10 in 13 races this season.
Madsen and Big Game Motorsports are scheduled to compete this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., for the Spring Nationals and Saturday at Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, S.D., for the Folkens Brothers Silver Shootout.
