Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (April 25, 2017) – Kerry Madsen guided Big Game Motorsports to a runner-up result last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway during its 64th annual season opener.

“Absolutely a confidence builder,” he said. “We know how much better we can get the car. To be that quick and know we don’t have the balance 100 percent is pretty exciting because there’s a lot of potential there.”

The Muddy sponsored team hadn’t competed for approximately six weeks prior to the event, which Madsen opened by setting quick time during qualifying. He then advanced from sixth to third place in a heat race to rank second in overall points. Since the zero was drawn for the feature inversion, Madsen lined up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“We were excellent in qualifying and pretty good in the heat race,” he said. “In the A Main Brian (Brown) was a little quicker than we were in open track. Late in the race when the groove changed we were a little quicker. I didn’t think we were great so to nearly win the thing and know we have a lot of work to do is really exciting.”

Madsen ran second for the entire race, but he had an opportunity entering turn one on the final lap. When Brown was slowed in traffic, Madsen dove to the bottom groove.

“Just to run the cushion we were a little tight,” he said. “Once we got to traffic and I could move around we caught him. I had a chance to pass him at the end. I had a shot at the end and that’s all you could ask for.

“I thought I could get it and squeeze my way in there. I tried, but wasn’t in there far enough. I needed about two more feet. I had to abort it. Brown did a good job by covering it. It was good racing.”

Madsen got on the brakes to avoid contact in turn one and that allowed Brown the advantage to hold onto the top spot.

The Muddy backed team will return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
