Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 15, 2016) – Jason Sides is ready to put the 56th annual 5-Hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals behind him.

Last weekend’s marquee sprint car event didn’t go well for Sides, who was just a tick off throughout the event at Knoxville Raceway.

“Just move on to the next week,” he said. “It all starts with qualifying. The heat races didn’t have much passing. There were a lot of good cars in the B Main and C Main. We got a little better in the B Main, but just came up a couple of spots short.”

Sides timed in 17th quickest during qualifying to open his preliminary night last Wednesday. He then placed seventh in a heat race before advancing from 10th to sixth in the B Main to miss transferring into the main event by only two spots.

He returned to the half-mile oval on Friday and qualified 16th quickest before ending sixth in a heat race and fifth in a B Main.

The night concluded with the World Challenge, which Sides started on the outside of the front row. The winner of the race earned a provisional into Saturday’s main event.

Sides led the first lap before Kraig Kinser took the lead on Lap 2. Sides regained the lead on the favored bottom groove a couple of laps later, but a caution came out before a lap was completed. Kinser retained the top spot and didn’t leave the bottom for the remainder of the race.

“We got too committed to the top and got the tires heated up,” Sides said. “I just overworked it trying to run Kraig down. It was one of those opportunities to get back in there, but it just didn’t pan out for us.”

Sides ended sixth. It marked his 25th top 10 of the season.

The event ended on Saturday with Sides advancing from 12th to ninth in the C Main.

He is slated to return to action this Tuesday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., and Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
