Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 2, 2016) – Derek Hagar is heading to Knoxville Raceway this weekend for the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.

It will be his fourth time tackling the event, which runs this Thursday through Saturday in Knoxville, Iowa.

“It’s a pretty big deal,” he said. “We don’t have a whole lot of laps around that place. With the experience we’ve gained since we been there and with the way our program is I feel confident going into the event.”

Hagar has competed at the 360 Knoxville Nationals three times during his career. He was there last in 2014 and previously made the 360 Knoxville Nationals A Main in 2011, when he was involved in an early crash.

“We have to make smart decisions,” he said. “Once you lose ground there you’re in trouble. You have to make those two laps of qualifying count. Hopefully we’ll be strong in qualifying and move forward every time we’re on the track.”

Despite rarely racing at the half-mile oval Hagar said it’s a special place to him.

“There’s a lot of history there,” he said. “My grandfather had cars there back when it was wingless. It runs deep in our family history. My stepdad’s dad has a set of bricks in the memorial part of the Hall of Fame. We don’t get to go run it very often. It’d be pretty special to make the show and have a good top-five finish.”

Hagar was set to compete at Greenville Speedway last Saturday. Unfortunately, rain wiped out the USCS Series event during hot laps.
