TKS Motorsports- New Maxim Passes Test!

A two-night weekend at Knoxville Raceway with the National Sprint League turned into one when Saturday was washed out. The TKS Motorsports #2KS team and driver Craig Dollansky surged from eleventh to seventh in Friday’s feature there. The Elk River, Minnesota driver was aboard a new Maxim assembled by the team. This weekend, the NSL will be co-sanctioning Friday with the World of Outlaws at Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin before returning to the Knoxville Raceway Saturday.

Craig timed in tenth quick in the 25-car field at Knoxville Friday. “We had the new car together,” says TKS Motorsports owner and crew chief, Troy Renfro. “We felt like we should have qualified a little better, but we were happy with the car.”

Troy says the team is happy with the new Maxim. “It took a little bit of time to put together after the crash we had on the Outlaw weekend,” he says. “Our ‘rebound and recovery’ took a lot out of us. But Craig and the team are happy with the car.”

After finishing third in his heat, Craig was ready for the feature. “We started eleventh and finished seventh,” says Troy. “The track was the nicest it’s been in a long time, as far as there was a lot of racetrack there, and it never really went away. It was a little tough to pass. But we were all happy with the way the car performed.”

The team is excited to get to Cedar Lake on Friday. “Cedar Lake has been good to me personally,” says Troy. “I’ve been able to be a part of a winning Outlaw team there. We always seem to do well there, and I like Cedar Lake.”

This will be the team’s second trip in as many seasons to the 3/8-mile banked oval. “We went up there last year, and it was good to have Aggressive Hydraulics there with us,” says Troy. “We ran well and qualified well both nights. It’s in Craig’s backyard, and we’re excited to get up there.”

With other races in the area last weekend, Troy and the team decided to prepare for Cedar Lake and Knoxville rather than travel. “That’s one reason I became a car owner is the right to race where we want to,” he says. “We have to be smart where we race right now. Our crash took a lot out of us, and crashes happen. That’s a part of what we do. I didn’t save anything off of that car, except the seat, steering wheel and gauges.”

The owner is happy about the state of 410 racing in the upper Midwest. “I respect everything that Tod Quiring and the NSL have done,” says Troy. “We haven’t raced for this kind of money in years and years here in the Midwest. Although I’ve never met him, I respect what Chuck Brennan has done in Sioux Falls. Right now, we’re up in the points with the NSL and at Knoxville. For us, as a team, we have to be smart about where we go. We’re not a high-dollar team. Everyone on the team has done a great job, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the year here.”
