Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 11, 2015) – Jack Dover endured a frustrated weekend in Central Iowa where he was slowed by bad luck and mechanical woes.
“We had high expectations going into the 360 Knoxville Nationals and right away we just got into too big of a hole to climb out of,” he said. “That seemed to carry over throughout the rest of the weekend.”
Dover opened the premier 360ci sprint car event at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, last Friday by qualifying 46th quickest. He then charged from 10th to fifth during a heat race, but was one position shy of locking into the main event.
“That buried me pretty deep in the B Main,” he said. “We passed a ton of cars, but weren’t able to overcome that qualifying result.”
Dover maneuvered from 20th to place ninth in the B Main, which missed a transfer into the main event.
That relegated him to start 14th during Saturday’s D Main. Dover advanced to eighth place and was in a torrid battle for the seventh-and-final transfer in the closing laps, but he came up one spot short of a transfer.
Dover returned to the half-mile oval on Sunday for the 4th annual Capitani Classic, where he timed in 37th during qualifying. He missed a spot in the heat races and was forced to start 16th in the C Main.
“We were able to pass a bunch of cars, but still missed a transfer just because we started so far back,” he said. “Qualifying really hurt us all weekend.”
Dover ended ninth in the C Main.
The weekend wrapped up on Monday at Southern Iowa Speedway with the FVP National Sprint League’s Front Row Challenge. Dover qualified 28th quickest and finished eighth in a heat race. Unfortunately, mechanical woes ended his night early and will likely keep him from contending throughout this week’s 55th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store at Knoxville Raceway.
